Deutsche Bahn selects Safetech Fence for long-term framework agreement
Rail Safety Constructions, together with Rail Equipment Services, has been awarded a Deutsche Bahn framework agreement for the supply of Safetech Fence temporary physical railway safety barriers in Germany.
The framework agreement covers DB-approved fixed barriers designed for installation without interference with the track superstructure and without moving ballast. The initial contract period runs from 1 October 2025 until 30 September 2028.
The agreement represents an important milestone for RSC and confirms the principles behind Safetech Fence: physical separation between railway workers and operational tracks, combined with fast installation, efficient logistics and minimal impact on railway infrastructure.
Designed for railway work alongside operational tracks
Deutsche Bahn set clear technical and operational requirements for the physical barriers included in the framework agreement.
Safetech Fence had to be approved for use on DB InfraGO infrastructure and certified by a recognised testing body. The requirements also included use alongside trains travelling at speeds of at least 160 km/h, installation in switch areas, the possibility of increasing the barrier height and, importantly, installation and removal without interference with the track superstructure or movement of ballast.
These requirements fit directly with the way Safetech Fence was developed: creating a robust physical separation while keeping installation simple and minimising interference with the railway infrastructure.
Fast installation. Minimal impact on the railway.
A key advantage of Safetech Fence is the way the system is installed.
The Mechanical Safetech Fence can be installed from one side of the track, without excavation or ballast disturbance. This reduces the work required in and around the track and allows a physical barrier to be established quickly.
After the railway work has been completed, the modular system can be removed and reused on another project.
More than the purchase price
The Deutsche Bahn procurement process looked beyond the initial purchase price.
The evaluation also considered the economic performance of the system over its use. Installation and removal efficiency formed part of the assessment, with Deutsche Bahn specifically evaluating the time required by a two-person crew to install and remove 50 metres of barrier.
A temporary physical railway safety barrier should not only provide effective separation. It should also be fast to install, easy to remove, practical to transport and suitable for repeated use.
Framework agreement across Germany
The framework agreement enables Safetech Fence systems to be ordered for railway projects across Germany.
Deutsche Bahn documentation identifies locations including Frankfurt, Hannover, Berlin, München, Leipzig, Karlsruhe and Duisburg.
The initial contract period runs until 30 September 2028, providing a long-term basis for the supply of Safetech Fence within the Deutsche Bahn organisation.
For Rail Safety Constructions, this also provides an important reference for the further international development of Safetech Fence.
